IEDs and un exploded bombs in the recaptured
territories of the northeast
– The equipment lasted for four months to make
and all materials used for its production was

The Nigerian Army has unveiled a locally made
explosive detonator as part of its efforts to enhance
clearance operations in the northeast. The detonator known as
rechargeable blasting device
was unveiled and tested by the Nigerian Army on
Thursday, April 7 at the 2016 chief of army staff first
quarter conference held in Abuja, The News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Maj.-Gen. Gabriel Ode, the deputy commandant of
the national defence college and brain behind the
innovation said the device was a product of research
by the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers.
He said the device could be used for demolition of
Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and unexploded
bombs.
The deputy commandant said the research on the
production of the equipment lasted for four months,
adding that all materials used were sourced locally.
He said the device would play a pivotal role in the
northeast especially in the removal of planted IEDs
and unexploded bombs recaptured territories.
He said:" The production of this device is based
solely on researches conducted by Nigerian Army
engineers and from scratch to finish, the materials
were sourced locally.
"The average cost of producing one unit of the device
is N140, 000 as against N700, 000 required to import
same from abroad.
"The importance of the device cannot be over-
emphasised because before now, what was used in
demolition of explosives was no longer useful.
"We can use this one in our operations in the North-
East and the use of key switches makes it quite
unique."
Meanwhile, members of Nigerian youth have
commended the effort of Nigerian Army for the fight
against insurgency in the country.
The coordinator of the group in Abuja, Comrade
Muritala Mohammed made these known to the
public while the group made a peaceful rally to the
Ministry of Youth and Sport in Abuja.
He noted that the gallant Army in the last eight month
has curbed the action of the terrorist, in affected
state like Yobe, Adamawa, and Borno State.
Comrade Mohammed explained further that the
support given by the President Buhari has been
enormous in fighting crime.
